"A reassuring meeting": this is how the mayor of Santa Teresa Gallura, Nadia Matta, defined it. Last December 3, accompanied by the deputy mayor Nello Mura and in an online connection with the mayor of Bonifacio Jean-Jacques Orsucci, she met in Cagliari the regional councilor for Transport, Barbara Manca, who "confirmed", writes the mayor of Santa Teresa, "that the historic route , of fundamental economic, cultural and touristic importance, is not at risk of being suppressed . Indeed, thanks to studies previously conducted by regional administrations, it appears that this route is the most requested by hauliers, by companies that operate in commercial exchange and by tourists, thanks to the short duration of the trip and the frequency of daily trips, which make it economically advantageous".
The department, continues Nadia Matta, «has already started the necessary procedures against the company that won the contract for the scheduled service, although aware of the difficulties related to the immediate restoration of the service. The Giraglia ship has suffered a major breakdown that will require about two months of repairs in the shipyard. The Liburna should be available starting from the end of January, while the Ichnusa, belonging to another company, will be operational only at the end of March, after completing the maintenance work. Furthermore, the ships available in the Mediterranean for this route, compatible in size and draft, cannot navigate in international waters without specific authorizations, which are difficult to obtain. In this context, the councilor Manca, in agreement with her counterpart, Flora Mattei, is evaluating the possibility of requesting a derogation from international regulations to allow the passage of ships suitable for covering this route, given its specificity and logistical difficulties».
