"We will pursue every possible avenue to resolve the Villaputzu iron bridge issue, regardless of political affiliation." Villaputzu Mayor Pierpaolo Piu made this clear after writing a letter directly to Minister Salvini and speaking with the regional councilor for Public Works, Antonio Piu.

"As we learned in the long battle to protect the San Marcellino hospital," said the mayor of Villaputzu, "there are issues on which a territory must be able to transcend municipal affiliations and boundaries and speak with one voice."

Piu adds a reflection on healthcare: "Someone recently pointed out that the healthcare issue, and specifically the shortage of pediatricians, is more important than the bridge issue. I understand the concern and share it. But I believe it's a mistake to pit two such important issues against each other. There's no choice between pediatricians and the bridge. Healthcare and pediatrics deserve all the attention they can get. Likewise, after nearly three years without a stable crossing of the Flumendosa, the bridge represents a serious problem for mobility, employment, businesses, students, families, and the entire Sarrabus area."

These issues are, incidentally, related because "a stable connection over the Flumendosa also means easier access to the hospital." According to leaks from the Metropolitan City of Cagliari, work on the bridge's renovation could restart in September.
