A terrible accident that is still remembered after 6 years. It occurred near Santa Maria Coghinas in March 2019, along the SP 92, when the Land Rover driven by a 47-year-old man from Sassari crashed in the afternoon into a Volkswagen inside which there were a man and two women. A violent impact that caused fractures and injuries of all types, essentially involving almost all parts of the body.
But the one who got the worst of it was the man from Sassari, who ended up on trial with charges of serious personal injury and drunk driving and drug-induced alteration . Because the forty-seven-year-old suffered an impressive number of injuries: just to name a few, from a fractured tongue and jaw, to the breaking of most of his teeth, tibia, forearm and urethra. A physical condition of such seriousness that it was necessary to transport him by helicopter to the Santissima Annunziata hospital.
But in addition to the diagnosis, there was also, as written, the accusation that he had caused the accident, so much so that his insurance paid for the damages that the driver of the Land Rover had caused. Yesterday, however, there was a dramatic turn of events because, in court in Sassari, judge Claudia Sechi acquitted the man of the charge of serious personal injury "for not having committed the crime" . In one of the hearings, among other things, the defense consultancy, represented by lawyer Tina Lunesu, had ascertained that it was not the forty-seven-year-old who had caused the road accident.
The other two charges, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs, remained in play, attested by tests that the defense objected were null because they were carried out without the suspect being informed of the need to call a lawyer and because they were not ratified by the confirmatory tests. The judge also ordered the acquittal on these two charges "because the fact does not exist" .
