To remember the country's great champion, the streets will once again be invaded by bikes. On Sunday in Santa Giusta the fifth memorial will be staged in honor of Giovanni Garau, once the king of the bike who trained and was applauded by everyone as a true hero. After all, it was he, before Fabio Aru, who managed to finish the Giro d'Italia in 1961. The amateur sports group Oristano Asd organizes the competitive cycling race of the Sardinian team time trial championship.

The race on Sunday morning includes a circuit starting at ten from via Garibaldi, in front of the Municipality. Then I pass through Via Papa Giovanni XXIII, along a stretch of provincial road 49, one of 97 up to the roundabout in the municipality of Oristano. Then the return for a total of two laps.

It is the fifth memorial after his death. It was December 14, 2016 when, in his home in via Manzoni, the two-wheel rebel, born in 1935, passed away. In Santa Giusta everyone remembers Garau with pleasure. He used his first bike to go after the family goats. Until an uncle suggested he go to Oristano for a race. He came first, defeating the provincial champions. Since then he never got off the bike and managed to achieve many victories.
