"The Municipal Administration of Alghero, thanks to the use of a significant part of the budget surplus, will deploy concrete and important resources, destined for the redevelopment and safety of municipal gyms and city sports facilities. A strategic choice, which looks at sport not only as a physical activity, but as a tool for social, educational and cultural growth". Christian Mulas, president of the V Commission announces investments for the city's sports facilities and puts the spotlight on the Mariotti field , "a historic facility that has raised generations of footballers and fans and that has represented, for decades, the beating heart of city sport. Today the stadium, although in precarious conditions, still represents a place full of meaning and potential" .
For Mariotti, at the moment, there are only 70 thousand euros available that will be used for the design of a radical restyling . But it is not enough. "A strong commitment is needed, also in economic terms, to complete the recovery of the field, the stands and the services, making it fully usable and decent for athletes, clubs and fans" , warns the president of the commission. "The moment is particularly favorable thanks to the work of the new company Alghero Calcio, which believed in an ambitious and passionate sports project, bringing enthusiasm, vision and competence back to the local football world".
"A group of young entrepreneurs from Alghero, driven by love for the city and football, have decided to invest in the area, giving back to Alghero the sporting dignity it deserves. A gesture of courage and responsibility that deserves institutional support and civic participation", Mulas concludes, highlighting the return of coach Mauro Giorico, with great experience and profile, who represents a point of reference for regional football and an added value for the project.
"The presence of an expert guide like Mauro Giorico - Christian Mulas underlines - is a strong signal of continuity and rootedness with the history of Alghero football. It means wanting to build a serious, competitive and identity-based path, which enhances local talents and strengthens the sense of belonging".
Even the leader of the League in the City Council, Michele Pais , is pushing for the redevelopment of the Mariotti field. "It cannot continue to remain a ruin in the heart of the city. Alghero and its team deserve much more," says Pais. "There are funds already transferred from the Region also thanks to my direct interest - he recalls - not of great amount, it is true, but certainly sufficient for a timely intervention that allows the team to return to play in a dignified structure. All that is needed is political will and a minimum of common sense."
