San Gavino, the Ukrainian community at the peace march: "Thanks to the great heart of Medio Campidano"
War refugees: "Grateful for the help we receive every day, our children are no longer afraid"Many Ukrainians hosted in various towns of Medio Campidano came to give their testimony at the peace march, organized by the Caritas of the diocese of Ales and by the regional one.
A large group of 30 people arrived from nearby Villacidro together with the cultural mediator Tatiana Niukalo: «This small area of Sardinia has a big heart and continues to help us. In Villacidro there are 30 Ukrainians welcomed in some houses: the children go to school and the boys attend high school. I have been living in Sardinia for 20 years and I don't hear the shots but I miss Ukraine and make myself useful in this difficult moment. Let's hope everything goes back to normal."
In Villacidro the Ukrainian refugees were welcomed by the Cooperative Alle Sorgenti Progetto A, including a couple with eight children: «We are grateful for the help – explains the father – that we receive every day: here we managed to overcome the fear aroused by the bombs and to look ahead, even if our dream is to return to our country . On 24 February our house was bombed out: I was working in the mine».
Larissa's testimony is also touching: «For two weeks we were hidden in a shelter in Ukraine where I left my parents while the oldest of my sons is fighting on the front. I thank you for the welcome received here in Italy. The children are now calmer and are no longer afraid ».
Finally, Laura Salis, operator of the same cooperative, takes the floor, at the forefront of welcoming refugees already during the North African emergency of 2011 and who recalls the deepest meaning of peace: «It is not only the hope of the cessation of conflicts , but to act concretely for the common good, a radical change which implies absolute respect for the dignity of the person ".
