«San Benedetto Market, the first works are underway». But there is controversy: «The executive project is not there»

A portion, on the Via Bacaredda side, blocked off. Parking restrictions again in the area, workers and vehicles in motion. Work on the San Benedetto market is finally starting. With a three-month delay compared to the exit of the concessionaires, transferred (for the next two years) to the temporary structure in Piazza Nazzari, the Municipality is starting the redevelopment work (costing over 40 million) that will give back a new market, accessible to all, with green areas and spaces to enjoy even during non-traditional market hours. For the moment, however, these are "preliminary works that are still part of the overall redevelopment project", explains the Councilor for Public Works Yuri Marcialis.
More precisely, excavations for the positioning of the cables that the company must carry out for the positioning of the new Enel cabins; while inside the work of the specialized company that is transferring the Pulli ceramics that were donated in 2006 continues. "In the meantime, the verification of the project continues, a procedure that is a legal requirement, and within about ten days that phase should also be completed", says Marcialis. "Yes, but when will the work actually begin?" asks Giuseppe Farris, councilor of CiviCa 2024, who has presented a question on the delays in starting the work. "The doubts remain, because the Enel cabins and the ceramics were already known about well before the transfer of the concessionaires: the fundamental point is that the executive project does not yet exist", he adds.
The story
On March 1, the San Benedetto operators had left the market "in a hurry" with the idea that the work would start immediately, also to avoid losing the funds. "The funding will not be lost," reassures Councilor Marcialis. The funds, initially PNRR, were then transferred to other lines of financing which, the councilor explains, "allow for greater flexibility in spending times." This, however, does not resolve the doubts about the work. "When the mayor, on the occasion of the transfer, said that the work should be completed within two years, on that occasion I asked "two years starting from when?"," Giuseppe Farris reiterates. "A question that still stands today. Because now we know that the verification of the documents should be completed within ten days, but we know nothing else. Between what is said and what is not said, the only thing we know is that the work on the Enel cabins was known before the operators were transferred to Piazza Nazzari. On the start of the work, however, there is still no certainty," he adds.

The checks
The inspector, external to the administration (as required by law), should send the results of the inspection back to Palazzo Bacaredda in the next few days. Immediately afterward, the municipal offices will have to “reread” the documents and only at the end of that moment will they be able to send the company inside the structure. “The inspection of the documents has highlighted several critical issues, hence the explanation for the long times,” explains Marcialis. “In order to respect the timetable, some works have been removed from the overall project, such as those that are starting these days on the side of Via Bacaredda, which allow us to stay on schedule.” Yes, but which ones?
