Sentenced to 24 years in prison Francesco Massa, the 65-year-old man arrested in July 2021 for killing his flatmate at the height of an argument in Is Mirrionis, Cagliari .
The crime took place in via delle Doline, in an apartment shared between seasonal workers , Massa was a street vendor. The victim, Massimiliano Lilliu, was a 33-year-old cook .
The sentence was pronounced today, the Court of Assizes did not consider it necessary to inflict life imprisonment on Massa, as requested by the prosecutor Rita Cariello .
According to what has been reconstructed, the attack took place at the height of a violent dispute originating from an alleged waste of electricity in the house that Massa attributed to Lilliu . Too many lights on, too many washing machines, which would have prompted him to stab the 33-year-old to death.
The peddler had explained that it all started due to a series of thefts in his room that he attributed to Lilliu, a version that did not entirely convince the investigators.
Already in 1997 Massa had been sentenced to 22 years' imprisonment for another murder committed in Domusnovas two years earlier . The victim is a 19-year-old, killed with a stab in the throat because, in the opinion of the vendor, he was speeding through the village with the car at too high a speed.
