The ancient Selargino wedding, which - like the Sartiglia of Oristano, and the Candelieri Festival of Sassari - becomes a full part of the great cultural events in the national context. Waiting for - as announced a month ago by the regional councilor for Tourism Gianni Chessa - the Selargius chain wedding rite to also be included in the register of major events in the Region.
Excellence
In fact, the only event in the vast area of Cagliari among the 39 events in the history of the island certified by the eight researchers who conducted the investigation on the Italian territory. «It is an important national recognition that gives prestige to our community and contributes to promoting the Selargino area by taking its name beyond regional borders», comments mayor Gigi Concu. "I can only express great satisfaction on behalf of the entire municipal administration."
A prestigious showcase for the city and its history, which has finally conquered its space in the mapping drawn up by experts, complete with a complete profile that can be consulted on the website of the Central Institute for Intangible Heritage. «A result that rewards our traditions and the strongly identifying character of one of the events that Selargius talks about most of all», underlines the councilor for Culture Oriana Bernardi, «bringing together past and present and different generations. The next step will be the inclusion of the Selargino wedding in the register of major events, for which we await the ruling from the Region".
The Pro Loco
The historic president of the Pro Loco Gianni Frau, who has been leading the city association for over thirty years now, was also satisfied. And with the mission of making the ancient wedding rite typical of Selargius grow year after year. «I agree with the words of the mayor and the councilor», comments Frau, «for all of us it is yet another confirmation of how the Selargino wedding is not limited to the city borders but can go well beyond the Tyrrhenian Sea, like other events perhaps better known but no longer relevant. A gratification that repays me and all the members of the Pro Loco for the dedication and commitment made over these years."
