The Municipality of Porto Torres has successfully joined the Phoenicians' Route , one of the forty-seven international cultural itineraries recognized by the Council of Europe Program which this year has chosen Sardinia to celebrate twenty years of activity.

In Porto Torres a network delegation from Cabras took part in the guided tours on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 October in the archaeological area of the ancient Turris Libisonis and in the historic city centre . It was the final stage of the international meeting hosted from 18 to 20 October in the Giovanni Marongiu Civic Museum of Cabras. Three days of conferences, exhibitions, meetings and thematic tables closed with the General Assembly and the XVI Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue on the Phoenicians' Route in which international delegations and representatives of the 15 countries involved in the network and other Cultural Itineraries took part Euro-Mediterraneans.

Delegates from 6 countries arrived in the Turritan municipality - Lebanon, Cyprus, Malta, Croatia, Spain and Greece - together with Maria Giusi Luprano, Rachid Chamoun and Tatjana Horvatic', representatives of the Ministries of Cultural Heritage of Italy, Lebanon and Croatia who was able to appreciate the history, colours, sounds and local traditions also thanks to the performances of the choir I Cantori della Resurrezione, directed by Fabio Fresi and the folk group Intragnas.

«For the Municipality of Porto Torres – said the municipal councilor for culture Maria Bastiana Cocco – entry into the Phoenicians' Route circuit represents a unique opportunity to network, not only with institutions and municipalities in our territory but also with of international importance in order to best promote all the riches of the territory, starting from our historical and archaeological heritage".

«It is the communities - added Antonio Barone, director of the Phoenicians' Route - who decide the strategic planning of their territory. Porto Torres joined the network with the aim of taking advantage of the international network, active for 20 years, and its specific strategy for developing new models of cultural and regenerative tourism. The Phoenicians' Route will contribute to promoting and giving visibility at an international level to the peculiarities and immense heritage of Porto Torres."

The term Phoenician Route refers to the connection of the great nautical routes which from the 12th century BC were used by the Phoenician people as fundamental commercial and cultural communication routes in the Mediterranean.

Through the discovery of other cultures and exchange, valuable interconnections and collaborations arise for the development of all communities."
