Proposed 5-year suspension of connections between the two islandsPer restare aggiornato entra nel nostro canale Whatsapp
A five-year moratorium on the application of the ETS (Emissions Trading System) Directive to maritime and air routes between Sardinia and Corsica : this is the request at the heart of the joint letter sent to the Italian and French governments by the Regional Councillor for Transport, Barbara Manca, and Jean-Félix Acquaviva, Executive Councillor of the Corsican Authority.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to strengthen cooperation between the two countries, revitalized by the renewed momentum of the Quirinale Treaty, which will culminate in a summit scheduled for today in Antibes, France, between representatives of the two governments.
"The letter sent to governments represents a crucial step because it clearly raises a central issue: the ecological transition cannot penalize island territories and requires specific and appropriate measures," emphasized Councilor Manca.
The proposal put forward by Sardinia and Corsica aims to include the moratorium in the Italy-France intergovernmental seminar, with the goal of ensuring an adjustment period that takes into account the islands' specificities.
"Our request," continues Todde, "is simple but essential: rigidly applying the ETS directive, without considering the structural costs of insularity, risks increasing transportation costs for citizens and businesses , with negative effects on competitiveness, cohesion, and the right to mobility."
In recent months, the two islands have intensified their institutional collaboration, addressing the need to strengthen the maritime continuity system between Santa Teresa di Gallura and Bonifacio and introduce new air connections between the two regions' ports.
