The city of Alghero , after the celebrations on the night of Ferragosto, found itself forced to deal with serious episodes of incivility . Some beaches were transformed into veritable landfills , expanses of waste were abandoned in the sand along the shorelines.

Since this morning, Environmental Services workers have been working to restore the coastline's splendor. Last night, Alghero welcomed thousands of people who brought the old town and waterfront to life to celebrate Ferragosto (August 15th) and watch the traditional fireworks display .

"It's right to celebrate and have fun, but nothing can justify disrespectful and offensive behavior toward our land and its inhabitants," said Mayor Raimondo Cacciotto , who also reported the damage to the Maria Pia fence. "Respect for common spaces begins first and foremost with individual responsibility. For our part, we will continue to work on prevention and promote correct and virtuous behavior," the mayor emphasized, "starting especially with the youngest and educating people about respect for the environment, which is everyone's home."

The mayor thanked the Local Police, the Barracelli, who remained on duty until 3:00 a.m. and were active again early in the morning with a significant presence on the beaches. He also thanked all law enforcement agencies for their extraordinary work during a particularly busy evening. Thanks also to the Environmental Service and their operators, who worked from the early hours of the morning to restore cleanliness and order in the city and on the beaches.

" Thanks to the citizens who spontaneously started picking up the rubbish left on the beach this morning ," Cacciotto concludes. "It is precisely these recent gestures that remind us that caring for Alghero is a collective responsibility."
