They had returned to complete their "work": finishing the defacement of the rocks by the sea at Rena Bianca, in Santa Teresa Gallura. But environmental officials were waiting for them, and they spotted them. Now, trouble begins for two young Austrian tourists, as the Carabinieri from the local station are handling the matter.

The scandal broke this morning following a public complaint from Northern League MP Dario Giagoni, a true Teresina native: "Vandals who think they're artists," he wrote on social media, posting images of the defacement and arguing that those responsible should "pay squarely for this outrage. What happened in Santa Teresa certainly doesn't fall under the category of street art; it's not about sprucing up degraded walls, but pure vandalism and unrelenting environmental degradation. These acts are considered crimes."

Those in charge didn't sit idly by. The movements of some young people had aroused the suspicions of environmental guards and the staff of Silene Multiservizi, which manages Rena Bianca beach. They were convinced they might return. And they did.

This evening, the two young Austrians who had marked the ancient rocks in black were ready to "fill" the first traces with other colors . But they were stopped. And now the price could be steep.
