Soon, many patients will be called back by the Cagliari Local Health Authority and Arnas Brotzu to bring forward medical visits and tests already scheduled with very long waiting times .
The Cagliari Local Health Authority (ASL) expects to recover 30,000 bookings with its waiting list reduction project, which relies on a €5 million allocation from the Region, partly dedicated to recall activities and partly to budget increases for accredited private providers . Seventy percent of this sum will be allocated to recovering outpatient services characterized by waiting times exceeding the maximum permitted limits.
The health authority specifies that all those whose reservations exceed the expected waiting time will be reinstated. These include diagnostic procedures such as mammography and ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound, electrocardiogram, and specialist visits, including eye, cardiology, and allergy exams.
The project consists of three phases: collection of applications, with a detailed schedule of activities to be carried out in each facility; preparation of new calendars to which bookings will be transferred; and recall activities, through which patients with bookings over the maximum allowed times will be contacted to reschedule their appointments .
"The project aims to address the main critical issues that have emerged regarding waiting times for healthcare services," explains Aldo Atzori, Special Commissioner of the Cagliari Local Health Authority . "Despite the expansion of outpatient healthcare services, we are well aware that a significant volume of services exceed the expected waiting times. Thanks to this project, we will be able to recover approximately 30,000 outpatient services for the same number of patients who, otherwise, would risk having to wait months to receive a diagnosis and receive treatment within the timeframes established by current legislation."
And starting Saturday, December 13th , Brotzu will also launch a special program to reduce waiting lists . This plan will allow the healthcare provider to increase specialist visits, diagnostic tests, therapeutic procedures, and surgical interventions .
More patients will be managed and waiting times will be reduced, especially in oncology, orthopedics, cardiovascular care, and other highly complex disciplines.
The program is divided into six points.
- Increased availability of visits, diagnostic tests and surgical procedures: additional sessions on pre-holidays and holidays
- Recovery of pending services, with recall of patients who have been waiting the longest
- Greater availability of specialist teams with doctors, technicians and healthcare personnel who voluntarily join the project
- Optimization of agendas: calendars are reviewed and rationalized to best utilize available resources, reduce cancellations, and reorganize slots, with particular attention to surgical activities
- The actions will be concentrated in the sectors where demand is highest or where waiting times are most critical: oncology, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, as well as high-intensity surgical disciplines .
- Communication and information to citizens
The following Arnas Brotzu facilities are participating in the program: Breast Surgery, Gynecological Oncology, Radiological Oncology, Hematology, Pain Therapy, Orthopedics and Traumatology, Cardiology Oncology, Nephrology, Neurology and Stroke Unit, Pediatric Cardiology, Hemodynamics, and Robotic Bariatric Surgery.
