The gup of Sassari Giuseppe Grotteria condemned the 77 ultras of Cagliari who on 25 March 2017 became the protagonists of a raid in the city center, near the railway station, also causing several injuries.

While dismissing the charges, removing the accusations of devastation and looting as requested by the defense lawyers Marcella Cabras, Matteo Arca and Mario Canessa, the judge for the preliminary hearings imposed penalties on the 77 fans ranging between 3 years (for those who had already undergone convictions for specific crimes), 2 years (for those who still have precedents) and 1 year and 8 months for those with no record.

The prosecutor Maria Paola Asara had asked for exemplary sentences, from a minimum of 3 years and 10 months up to a maximum of 8 years.

The Municipality of Sassari and the people attacked, who had filed a civil action, had already left the scene a year ago, accepting the cash compensation proposed by the defendants.

THE FACTS - That Saturday afternoon the Cagliari ultras arrived in Sassari with three buses following the team, which had scheduled a friendly match in Sorso. The fans, proceeding in procession from the bus stop in via Padre Zirano to the railway station in Corso Vico, turned the city upside down, attacking some passers-by and traders and damaging street furniture and parked cars. The raid unleashed an urban guerrilla against Torres fans, who rushed to the station, and against the police forces in anti-riot deployment, who after several hours managed to confine the ultras in the train station and get them back on the buses.

Identified by the Digos, 64 of them had taken the Daspo up to six years. Of the 87 who ended up on trial, 77 opted for the shortened procedure and were sentenced today. Six chose the ordinary rite and one died, while the position of the other three was removed.
