"We will not stop": sit-in in Cagliari against the closure of operating rooms at Businco
Appeal to President Todde to stop the Arnas Brotzu project: «We are not postal packages, risk of health emigration»A sit-in of pain and anger, a visceral protest against the closure of the operating rooms of the “Businco” hospital in Cagliari, specialized in oncology.
The associations Socialismo Diritti Riforme, Lilt Salute Donna and others gathered in front of the structure to launch an appeal to the President of the Region Alessandra Todde, so that she stops the Arnas Brotzu project .
"You cannot sacrifice a center of excellence for incomprehensible purposes," declare the spokesmen, who fear a decommissioning disguised as restructuring.
Businco is a cornerstone of Sardinian healthcare, irreplaceable for thousands of cancer patients who, between breast cancer, gynecological cancer and chronic pain, cannot afford to wait. The proposal to transfer departments such as thoracic and gynecological surgery and to close the pain therapy rooms risks leaving patients in uncertainty and drastically increasing waiting times .
“We cannot accept being treated like postal packages,” they protest, fearing a “healthcare emigration” for those forced to seek treatment elsewhere.
And so patients and associations are asking for an immediate freeze of the plan and a round table to safeguard the Businco, which risks losing specialists and falling into decay. "Our battle will continue until we have certainties. The Businco cannot be sacrificed."
