State Road 195, between Cagliari and the Macchiareddu roundabout, will be closed until January 30th.

This was established by an order from Anas, which is taking time to determine what and how much damage was caused to the two-lane stretch of road by the storm surge that hit Sardinia due to Cyclone Harry.

The ordinance

The order states that "the severe storm, combined with gale-force winds and high seas (...), have rendered the stretch of the Sulcitana between kilometers 5.500 and 8.200 unusable." Company workers and technicians are working to restore normality, but "the appropriate assessments and inspections must be carried out, and these can only be completed when sea conditions permit." Meanwhile, to ensure safety, "it is not possible to allow safe transit of road users along the stretch."

And January 30th is a potentially temporary date: it remains to be seen whether the waves have damaged the road surface. If so, the repairs could be very complex.

The alternative route

Traffic from Capoterra/Pula toward Cagliari will be diverted at km 8+900 toward the consortium road to Macchiareddu and from there toward the SP 2 and then toward the State Road 130 at the junction. Vehicles traveling from Cagliari toward Capoterra/Pula will be able to use the reverse route. Chaos has already been reported on these roads.
