His Mali , a 14-year-old pincher , is no longer with us. Squeezed by the jaws of a wild boar, he lost his life after a few hours of agony. «I can't get the scene out of my head – says the owner, Anna Porcu – enough is enough, someone intervenes, we can't be afraid to leave the house ». The episode, which occurred a few days ago in the Olbiamare district , south of Olbia (together with Poltu Quatu and the airport area among the city areas most affected by the invasion of ungulates) is among the most serious of those which, for months now, have been reported. Attacks on people and pets and chases are the order of the day : the latest, which occurred on Saturday night against a boy who, to defend himself, threw earthenware vases found on the wall of a house at the animals.
Hundreds of citizens are calling for the phenomenon to no longer be underestimated . The petition, launched in March, has reached a thousand signatures and now a chat and a Facebook page are also active, "Wild boar and waste emergency in Olbia": reports also come from other parts of the city, for example Viale Aldo Moro high. « They killed my little dog practically in the entrance hall of the house – says Anna – a little pincher weighing three and a half kilos; I had just put the leash on him for the usual tour but unfortunately I didn't see the boar, hidden by the walls that delimit the entrance. Since the leash is a little long, the dog, in the meantime, had turned the corner and was immediately attacked. I managed to free him but I realized that he was very serious and in fact he died shortly after we arrived at the veterinary clinic."
The proliferation of ungulates , the residents point out, began a few years ago also due to the numerous illegal landfills ; the packs pounce on the garbage and continue hunting for food among the collection tubs and ecoboxes, the latter often full. «Some people still joke and minimize the phenomenon but it's not normal for us to have wild animals in the city – Anna says – of course if people didn't throw rubbish on the street we wouldn't have gotten this far. I don't want anyone to harm the wild boars, even if they caused me great pain by killing my little dog. I just wish they would take them back to their natural habitat." The promoter of the petition raises the question. «The lady's dog was killed on the doorstep of the house – says the lawyer Christian Cicoria – not in the woods on the outskirts».
