A merchant ship flying the flag of Panama - the Unzile Ana - was detained in the port of Olbia for "serious security deficiencies" .
The measure was taken following an inspection carried out on board by the inspectors of the Port State Control Unit of the Port Authority.
The 2,914 gross tonnage unit, coming from Sagunto, Spain, and bound for Salerno with a load of steel coils, arrived in the Olbia harbor late Tuesday afternoon, towed by another ship due to of a failure that blocked the engines during navigation , when the merchant ship was in French waters, south-east of Corsica.
The inspectors of the Coast Guard found, among other things, serious shortcomings relating to the life-saving appliances, to some fire safety systems and to the professional preparation of the crew in relation to the procedures for fire fighting , as well as the malfunctioning of the diesel generator. emergency, and deficiencies related to safety procedures in general.
