The latest accident occurred on Monday morning at 9: a Fiat Panda lost control on the curve between Viale La Plaia and Via Riva di Ponente, skidded and crashed into the wall that divides the road from the sports center, destroying it . An episode that relaunches the safety issue in the area, given that several times over the years, even fatal accidents have occurred. "We reiterate the request to install any device that allows cars to slow down", the appeal of Matteo Casula, owner of Ssd Dlf Cagliari, the company that manages the sports center. "After yet another accident, on a road for which we had repeatedly requested intervention, we no longer know what we have to wait for to obtain this "miracle" of improving safety on Viale La Plaia".
The Dlf Cagliari opened the sports facilities in November 2020, immediately after it asked the Municipality - through a petition signed by the members - to insert a deterrent or another tool that can reduce the risk of accidents. "Never received any answers in all these years, not even negative ones", Casula's bitterness. "The road is taken for a Formula 1 track, the lighting is non-existent and there is not even a camera. Just think that some time ago a firecracker exploded and the person responsible was never found out". The petition was followed by several reminders, also without a response.
Among the many accidents on Viale la Plaia, one of the most serious recent ones is that of August 25, 2021: a 50-year-old fisherman, Pierpaolo Muscas, was hit by a car and died . Just over a year ago, a car crashed into a lamppost, leaving five people injured. "We were told by the previous municipal administration, after having denied us the possibility of building another entrance in addition to the one at the curve, that to improve safety they would provide an intervention on the occasion of the opening of the university campus: it didn't happen," concludes Casula.
