Cataract surgeries, colonoscopies, gastroscopy, MRI scans, mammograms, computed tomography (CT) scans.

These are the services "most critical, based on epidemiological data and waiting list surveys" that characterize Sardinia's public healthcare system.

The regional health department confirmed this by announcing the Todde administration's approval of the measure "to reduce waiting times for the most critical outpatient specialist services , in implementation of Article 9 of Regional Law No. 24 of 11 September 2025."

Villa Devoto announces that "a total allocation of 3 million euros is planned for 2025 and 2026, earmarked for the purchase of healthcare services from private providers accredited through the Regional Health Authority (ARES)."

The resources, it is explained, "will be distributed among the eight local health and social care agencies based on resident population, to ensure greater consistency of provision across the region. ARES will publish a specific call for expressions of interest in acquiring services, reserved exclusively for accredited private facilities that meet the required requirements. Local health and social care agencies will be required to submit their requirements within ten days of the resolution's adoption . Users will be entered through dedicated diaries in the CUP system, which will also allow for the company's single waiting list management officers (RUGLA) to monitor the actual reduction of waiting lists on a monthly basis."

The measure has been forwarded to the Regional Council for the opinion of the competent council committee.

"With this initiative," said Regional Health Councilor Armando Bartolazzi, "we are deploying concrete resources to structurally address one of the most pressing issues facing citizens: waiting times for diagnostic and specialist services. The involvement of accredited private providers, through transparent and monitored procedures, will allow us to more rapidly reduce accumulated delays and ensure equal access to care throughout the region. This is a targeted initiative, based on real data and constant monitoring of results."
