“Attacked by dozens of stray dogs shortly after getting off the Livorno-Olbia ferry”.

This is the complaint that comes from a cyclist from Vicenza, Simone Ariot , who landed on the island for a cycling holiday.

It is he - who also sent a report to the local police of the Gallura city - to tell the story of the misfortune and the moments of great fear.

"I headed towards Golfo Aranci and at the Rotonda Pozzo Sacro , near the Cocciani industrial port, I was attacked by a pack of 20-30 strays who were stationed inside the roundabout area".

"There were at least 20 large dogs - adds Ariot - and in the meantime the cars and trucks were passing by. I could not stop because I would have risked being hit and at the same time I could not proceed because I would have gone to meet the dogs. After an escape attempt, zigzagging between several dogs, I was forced to turn right into via Madagascar. A dog had bitten the saddlebag of my bicycle and I was actually dragging him along. The adrenaline produced gave me the strength to pedal as fast as possible possible , until even the last dogs get tired and reach a shipyard a few hundred meters away where, fortunately, I found two people in the car who helped me ”.

But the nightmare is not over: "I had to go back to the roundabout to proceed towards Golfo Aranci, and these people shielded me with the car, allowing me not to be intercepted by the dogs that were still stationed in the roundabout".

"For years I have been cycling through the streets of Italy and Europe, my holidays are almost always on the saddle of a bicycle, a means that I use every day even in my city. Never, however, have I experienced such intense fear for 'obvious and uncontrollable danger ”, adds the cyclist.

Which concludes: “I am not a person who is afraid of dogs and I have a significant confidence with the two-wheeled vehicle. If in my place there had been a person fearful of dogs, or less experienced in cycling, or an elderly person, I think the consequences would have been very different ".
