Nine doctors to be hired and deployed across the country. Areus's new recruitment drive aims to strengthen the 118 emergency medical service stations, both in the operations centers in Sassari and Cagliari and on advanced medical emergency vehicles and medical cars, which currently face significant staffing shortages. The new resources will specifically strengthen the service stations facing the greatest challenges.
"During a period of severe contraction in medical resources across the country, the hiring of nine doctors for the Emergency Department in Sardinia is already a good result for us," emphasizes Angelo Maria Serusi, general manager of Areus, who also speaks of a paradigm shift: "Considering the limited availability of local emergency doctors, who over the years have ensured the functions of 118 in the area, we have decided to further focus our search for medical professionals, through recruitment procedures for personnel with specializations in disciplines equivalent to those for Local Emergency Doctors and therefore suitable for serving on ambulances as well as in 118 operations centers."
The current recruitment phase involves the entry into service of six third-year specialist doctors, plus three additional specialist doctors.
The new recruits at the emergency centers will further ensure the coordination and management of local healthcare personnel, who are engaged daily in community healthcare. They provide real-time clinical advice to nurses and volunteers, especially in complex situations where the clinical support of the doctors at the two 118 emergency centers is still necessary, even with highly trained personnel.
"The recruitment effort is part of a broader project to strengthen the local community," Serusi explains. "We are also working to strengthen nursing staff, not only to support the specific 118 mission within the extraterritorial emergency network, but also to support the local health authorities themselves in managing local healthcare facilities, which are suffering from a long-standing shortage of community doctors," Serusi states.
