Work has begun in Quartu to build a new police station on the site of the abandoned former nursery school on Via Boito . With the interior and exterior cleanup operations completed, workers are now removing gravel from the roof.

All the old fixtures, which were completely destroyed, have already been removed, and the partitions will be removed in a second phase. The work is proceeding rapidly, but not without setbacks: thugs continue to break into the construction site almost every evening and have already stolen equipment and fuel from the vehicles.

" What we found inside the structure is shocking," say site manager Leonardo Campesi of the Campesi company in Olbia and Angelo Pinna of the Copin construction company, who are managing the operation on behalf of the Ministry. "Tons of waste of all kinds, as well as mattresses, tables, and alcohol bottles." The problem now, they confirm, "is the constant incursions; they come in and steal."

Until construction began, the former nursery school was at the mercy of thugs, drug addicts, and the homeless, and there were even rumors of a child prostitution ring. Fires set among the garbage were also a daily occurrence, with the constant coming and going of firefighters.
