"They must listen to us; these are crucial issues." And there's talk, to name just two, of milk prices and the ongoing ban on shipments due to old outbreaks of bovine dermatitis.
The pastors are calling for a discussion with politicians, who they also expect to find concrete solutions to address the rural emergencies. Therefore, a meeting has been called for Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. in Cagliari, before the Regional Council.
This initiative isn't just a demonstration: the farmers, coordinated by Fabio Pisu, Gianuario Falchi, Mario Carai, and Nenneddu Sanna, are seeking discussion. A delegation will be welcomed by the Council group leaders and President Piero Comandini. Agriculture Councilor Francesco Agus will also be attending the meeting.
The flagless shepherds, returning from two well-attended assemblies in Tramatza, will be invited to take part in the supply chain meeting scheduled for the following day. In addition to the Region, representatives of banks, industrialists, and trade associations will be present.
On the table tomorrow and Tuesday will be the measures adopted so far to address rural emergencies, such as interventions to support diesel prices—Sardinia is the only region to have provided funding—and those adopted in the recent past, in collaboration with SFIRS, to resolve the crisis of several cooperatives that were at risk of collapse. There was a risk that the market would be flooded with cheap pecorino romano, which would have caused the price of milk to collapse.
