A crackdown on illegal parking in the streets of central Quartu . This morning, local police officers were busy between Piazza Azuni and Via Marconi, where several motorists were fined.
Particularly along Via Marconi, there were those who not only parked outside the blue lines but also obstructed the passage of pedestrians on the sidewalk.
The same thing happens in Piazza Azuni, where people continue to park in the crosswalks and pedestrian walkways, preventing pedestrians from passing.
The area has long been one of the most vulnerable to illegal parking, which is why local police enforcement has intensified. Every year, approximately 8,000-10,000 parking fines are issued in the city, and last year, 10,199 were issued. A large portion of these are issued by blue-striped parking enforcement officers, the remainder by local police officers.
Catching those who park in blue lines without displaying a ticket or arrive after the designated time is easy thanks to new systems available to officers, who carry a handheld device that allows them to verify offenders in real time. The fine is €38, which is reduced to €27 if paid within the first five days.
Most local police fines concern parking in restricted areas, that is, outside of blue lines or in restricted zones. In addition, there are fines for parking in disabled parking spaces, on the sidewalk, and at pedestrian crossings.
Other fines concern cars parked in front of driveways, often towed away. The problem is that uncivilized drivers continue to park in front of gates, preventing residents from entering and exiting their homes.
