No concrete response has yet been received regarding the closure of the facility requested by Cabras Mayor Andrea Abis. Today, the case of the migrant center on Via Toscana, housing 17 minors in Cabras, was brought to the attention of the Regional Council . This afternoon, a technical meeting was convened in Cagliari, attended by the municipal administrators of Cabras, President Todde, the Prefect of Oristano Paolo Corritore, and the Regional Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents Anna Cau.

During the meeting, Abis reiterated that the security issues are such, as publicly declared by the owner of the management service herself, that they have led to the request for its closure to the Prefecture of Oristano: "The centre must be closed because it does not guarantee public safety and the serenity of the community, nor the rights of the minors hosted there" .

During the meeting, it was also recalled that the closure of the center is the responsibility of the Ministry and the Prefectures, and that the minors will have to be transferred to permanent reception facilities until they reach adulthood, based on a specific project.
On this front, President Todde offered the Region's support through appropriate social policies, backing the proposal of the Regional Ombudsman for Children and Adolescents: to establish a strengthened system for welcoming minors through a regional direct assistance network. The Ombudsman reiterated the importance of a regional initial reception network capable of overcoming the current critical issues. The Prefecture, for its part, has set the short-term goal of reducing the number of minors present, to ease the burden and restore sustainable management.

The M5S attack on Meloni

And the issue is also becoming political, with the Sardinian Five Star Movement's frontal attack on Giorgia Meloni: "The Meloni government has abandoned Sardinia to its fate, even on the immigration front," declared regional coordinator Alessandro Solinas . "It can't control the arrivals and it can't manage what happens next. People arrive, they're concentrated in inadequate facilities, and then the state leaves the Region, municipalities, operators, law enforcement, and citizens alone. Sardinia is isolated on this too ."
Cabras is yet another example of a system that doesn't work. If a facility designed to house and protect minors reaches the point of creating safety problems for an entire community, it means the state is failing to protect either its citizens or the children housed in the center . Mayors and local authorities cannot be the ones to pay the price for the government's absence. We have already raised this with our parliamentarians. The problem must be brought to Rome immediately, because that's where the answers need to be provided.
Solinas then recalls the case of Monastir, a center housing 800 people out of a capacity of 300: "We took action by going on site and verifying firsthand the condition of the facility. After four years of the Meloni government, there are no more excuses: Piantedosi must intervene because we can no longer be the place where the government dumps problems it can't solve."
