Quartu celebrates its patron saint, Saint Helena. The initiatives are carried out by the Stable Committee of Saint Helena, with the collaboration of the parish and the municipal administration. The calendar of religious and civil events to celebrate the patron saint of the third city of Sardinia is rich. A program that inherits the great tribute of participation and faith, between May 18 and 24, on the occasion of the arrival from Venice of the relics of Saint Helena: 25 thousand faithful visited the basilica.
"The great event has given new impetus and vigor to our community and especially to our faith. And now, after this exciting experience of prayer, service and loving welcome, we set out again, strengthened in spirit, with generous faith and multiplied commitment to God and our neighbor," emphasizes the parish priest Don Alfredo Fadda.
"Being president in this very special and important year for our city, characterized by the visit and exhibition of the relics of our patron saint, moved me," says Antonio Longoni, president of the Stable Committee for 2024. "Having been able to feel her physically close is a memory that I will carry with me forever, and today we want to remember her and celebrate all together, as the city has always done and as I also remember doing with my family since I was a child."
The celebrations will officially begin on September 10th with the inauguration of the festival, but the great attention and anticipation of the city and beyond will be concentrated on the days of September 13th and 14th, with the impressive Eucharistic procession and the solemn masses presided over by Father Giampaolo Uras of the Missionary Community of Villaregia and by the priest from Quartu Don Mario Farci, dean of the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia.
For the first year, the Feast of Sant'Elena has been included by the Department of Tourism, Crafts and Trade of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia.
