Temporary removal of bins outside commercial activities that do not respect the rules of recycling. A way to "educate" Quartese traders and restaurateurs, in view of the sanctions that - they announce from the Town Hall - will be applied after the first warnings. "Tolerance is over", warns Mayor Graziano Milia, "we will no longer allow situations of degradation in the streets of the city".
The tight controls have been going on for weeks, with various businesses reported by citizens and passers-by. The modus operandi is always the same: checks on site, and - in the event of repeated irregularities - the bins are taken away. "The intent is not punitive: once the business owners go to get their containers back," the mayor specifies, "they are explained, for the umpteenth time, how to dispose of waste correctly. Some have understood and have complied, others have not. And on top of that," he continues, "it emerged that some were not paying the Tari."
The last forced withdrawal of bins was on August 10. "The measure presents some anomalies", notes Tonio Pani, group leader of the Civic Pole, "the name of a manager who has been missing from the Municipality for almost two months appears, and there is no signature. It makes you think that the act is not regular and we want to see clearly", says Pani who adds: "I have been reporting a series of poor services in waste collection in the city for some time, a little more common sense is needed on the part of citizens as well as on the part of the company that manages urban hygiene, otherwise we risk turning Quartu into a dunghill city".
The service order - the Municipality specifies - has been in effect for a year. "Next week another one will be issued by the new manager, also providing for the possibility of sanctioning the activity after a series of warnings", explains the mayor.
A tough line but also the availability of the Environment sector to find solutions that meet the needs of Quartesi traders. Not only that: after the summer, eco boxes will be positioned to lighten the impact of the bins outside the premises, an experimental project that will start from Viale Colombo.
