Puigdemont: "We will return to Alghero as free citizens of a Republic"
The Catalan independentist expresses gratitude to the Sardinian city and anticipates having called a press conference
Carles Puigdemont will hold a press conference tonight in Alghero together with the lawyer Gonzalo Boye and his head of cabinet, Josep Lluís Alay. Shortly before that, the current President of the Generalitat, Pere Aragones, who arrived in the city today, together with the other Catalan authorities already present, will also meet the journalists.
"We will return to Alghero as free citizens of a Republic, in a Europe that is more democratic and more united in fundamental rights," Puigdemont said during the meeting with the mayor Mario Conoci. "Long live Alghero and long free Catalonia - he added -. I write these words with immense honor and infinite emotion in the book of the beloved city of Alghero".
Puigdemont underlined the appreciation "for the solidarity" shown by the city "for the democratic junta of Catalonia and for its freedom".
