A fault on the medium-voltage grid, likely due to high temperatures and the simultaneous demand for large amounts of electrical power, caused continuous power outages in several neighborhoods of Quartu, starting Tuesday night and continuing throughout today, causing significant inconvenience to residents forced to do without air conditioning. Some sought refuge by sleeping on their porches, while others fanned themselves with hand fans.
"Thanks to the network maneuvers," Enel Distribuzione specified in a statement, "and the resulting resupply from other lines, prolonged outages were avoided."
Even today, "several operations were carried out on the ground due to several other faults. Precisely to avoid these problems, significant investments are being made in the electricity grid, with new lines and the construction of new primary and secondary substations, to meet the ever-increasing demand for electricity and provide greater power and stability."
One of these primary substations is currently under construction, not without controversy, on the edge of the Molentargius park between Via della Musica and Via Don Giordi. It will distribute electricity to approximately 20,000 customers and, as the signs at the construction site entrance state, "will ensure continuity of service by reducing the number of interruptions for customers."
The continuous power outages both Tuesday and yesterday primarily affected the Santo Stefano area, followed by the Sacro Cuore area, Via Tasso, Via Cilea, Via Paganini, Via Settembrini, Via De Candia, and many others. The power outages caused appliance failures and left people unable to turn on their air conditioners.
