In the industrial area of San Marco, in Alghero, work has begun on the new treatment plant for seagrass and beach sweeping waste. It will take approximately eight months to build the recycling line.

The plant, the result of an agreement between the Provincial Industrial Consortium of Sassari, the Municipality of Alghero and the Province of Sassari, will come into operation to treat residues coming from the beaches consisting mainly of algae, posidonia, but also sand, shells and plastics and microplastics. The sand content, in the order of 60%, once separated and washed through the wet process in the plant, can be returned to the beach of origin.

Waste relating to street sweeping will also be treated, i.e.: dust, soil, mud and the like deriving from the continuous action of atmospheric agents and traffic as well as seasonal waste such as foliage, branches and sand. The infrastructure serving northern Sardinia was financed with PNRR funds for 5 million euros.
