Battle to the bitter end for the workers of Portovesme srl.
In fact, the blockade of the entrance and exit gates continues in the Sulcitan plant, a new action to fight decided during the assembly convened by the unions after the nothing done in last week's meeting at the Ministry of Enterprise.
But the workers are ready to raise the bar in protest, waiting for the Government to set the date for the convocation of the multinational Glencore , owner of the factories in Sulcis and Medio Campidano. Other initiatives, demonstrations and even a general strike are expected. However, the decision regarding the latter has not yet been taken, also because the industrial site must comply with the "Seveso directive" which nonetheless provides for the presence of safety teams inside the plant.
The position of the workers is summed up as follows by Fausto Durante, secretary of the Sardinian CGIL : «Glencore demonstrates a sense of responsibility and restarts the Portovesme plants which are currently stopped, starting the gradual return to work of the workers from the redundancy fund. The dynamics of current costs for electricity demonstrates that resuming production immediately is possible and necessary : any further delay is absolutely unjustified».
