"It's about speeding up and making commitments concrete." This is the request of Fausto Durante, secretary of the Cgil Sardegna, in the meeting currently underway with the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, where the Portovesme issue was discussed. "The time factor is not secondary in the relaunch of production that once again this morning the officials of the Mimit have defined as strategic," he points out. This last indication is defined as a positive fact, among those that emerged during the meeting. Not the only one: it is noted that, for Portovesme and for Sider Alloys, there are new potential investors in the field.
"This is why - Durante continued on the issue of the Sulcis plant, during the meeting with Minister Adolfo Urso - we need to speed up, both in terms of discussions with new potential investors, and in terms of the energy decree that is up to the national government and that must be issued as soon as possible because it represents an element of certainty on costs and energy supplies for these same subjects interested in taking over the plants".
Cgil Sardegna is calling for a productive relaunch of the entire Portovesme activity, with «the prospect of returning to work and restarting the plants». What Durante is asking is that « the critical issues of the area be addressed within the framework of a single industrial project focused on the strategic nature of production, from zinc to lead to aluminum oxide and alumina, productions that have a market and concrete possibilities of relaunch, for which stringent action is needed by the government».
Last week, Portovesme srl had backtracked on the plant blockade . Among other issues, the secretary recalled that a training project is needed to update workers' skills with respect to innovations in production processes . "It is therefore necessary to evaluate whether the path proposed in another meeting by Minister Foti is viable, that is, the use of funds from the Just Transition Fund," concludes Durante.
