Tyrrhenian Link, delays extend: another two months of sea bans

Another ten months of passion on the roads, with construction sites remaining open (at least) until the end of June 2027.

But even at sea, progress is slow: the Coast Guard has granted a two-month extension on the restrictions and regulations imposed for the installation of the Tyrrhenian Link, the undersea power cable connecting Sardinia to Sicily and, from there, to the Italian mainland, for the transport of energy to be produced by the wind and solar farms planned on the island.

In December 2025, an ordinance was issued imposing restrictions on navigation and all maritime activities in a large stretch of sea off Terra Mala, on the Quartu coast, the Sardinian landing point for Terna's multi-billion-dollar cable. The deadline, and therefore the estimated completion date, was set for August 30th. Numerous vessels, operated by the Poliservizi company, have taken turns completing the work in recent months. But it's not over.

The Cagliari Harbour Office, at the request of the Srl, has established that "the ordinance issued on 30 December, and the subsequent ones regarding the integration of naval vessels listed above, relating to the laying and burial of energy transmission cables (...) are extended until 30 October".
