On Monday 9th the top management of Portovesme srl will be in Rome at Mimit: the meeting was requested by the company itself in the last few days, but the news spread during this morning's meeting on the occasion of the 24-hour strike of the workers.

The protest was born after the announcement by Glencore, the multinational owner of the Sulcis plant, to stop part of the zinc line while waiting for the start of the new production project. During the assembly, which was also well attended by several mayors of the area, the unions reiterated the concepts underlying the new action of struggle of the Sardinian workers that will not stop at today's abstention from work.

The entrance of the steelworks fumes truck has already been blocked this morning and it is not unlikely that the stop to the trucks will continue indefinitely until the Mimit also calls the unions who in the meantime will meet the regional councilor for industry Emanuele Cani on Wednesday 11th. The day before, the 10th, they will instead be at Labour 7, on the occasion of the G7 Labour in Cagliari, to talk with the national secretaries of Cgil, Cisl and Uil and express the concerns of the 350 direct and 450 indirect workers.

"It is appropriate to reach the national table as soon as possible and understand whether Glencore still wants to stay in Sardinia with full employment or whether the government is looking at other solutions", argued Emanuele Madeddu of Filctem Cgil. "We are ready to sit down at the negotiating table but for now the protest will not stop. We already have several meetings scheduled but a higher level meeting is needed in Rome", observed Vincenzo Lai of Femca Cisl. " The closure of part of the zinc line is in practice a stop to 80% of the plants, and this fact risks sending home about 750 people directly and indirectly", said Vincenzo Loi of Uiltec, "this territory cannot afford another social drama".
