Originally from Castelsardo but living in Porto Torres for several years, Biagina Serra, 76, has been an artisan for a lifetime now, lived with a passion for tradition and for the art of weaving raffia, a natural vegetable fiber used to create typical Sardinian baskets.

Big needle in hand and a clear drawing in the head, he wanted to carefully create an original nativity scene, set up at the entrance to the Palazzo del Marquis in Porto Torres. The nativity is displayed on a three-metre-long floor, with the camels of the Magi, the gifts, the shepherds and the peasants wearing the traditional turreted costume, a series of details and particulars that visitors cannot miss. There is no shortage of animals, hens and sheep, wells and jugs, all rigorously in raffia, and the bread making, the wood-burning oven, the clothes washed outside and hung out in front of the houses that tell of daily life in the countryside.

The exhibition will remain open to the public until 6 January, the day of the Befana feast. The nativity scene is one of the artistic works participating in the free competition "Presepi per la Città- 2022 Porto Torres" in memory of Vincenzo Camoglio, artist and nativity scene enthusiast, who passed away a few years ago.
