Caught by the cameras while dumping waste in the countryside. In recent days, in the Ponte Pizzinnu area, in the countryside of Porto Torres, one of the surveillance devices immortalized a person abandoning waste material from construction activities, which constitutes a criminal violation.

Following the investigation, the agents identified both the transporter responsible for the delivery and the owner of the property where the renovation works were underway. The two were therefore reported to the judicial authority for abandoning waste.

On the same days in the area of Via Ponte Romano, the personnel of the Compagnia Barracellare identified several abandoned postal packages containing documents which, analyzed by the Local Police, were found to belong to a woman, also identified.

The Command then proceeded to forward the news of the crime to the Prosecutor's Office. «The surveillance activity will continue and will be further strengthened to severely sanction those who do not respect the rules on waste disposal», declared the councilor for the environment Massimiliano Ledda, «the video-camera trap has proven to be an effective tool and is this is why we want to increase the number of devices to be positioned in strategic points of the city by applying the "zero tolerance" method. The issue of environmental protection is fundamental for this administration which intends to discourage as much as possible any behavior that causes problems of hygiene, health and decorum. I hope that these latest interventions by the Local Police constitute an important deterrent, considering the serious criminal consequences for those responsible. The action to combat the abandonment of waste will continue vigorously throughout the municipal territory."

The objective, in fact, is to combat the phenomenon of incorrect disposal and abandonment of waste. For this reason, the municipal administration of Porto Torres has for some time equipped the Local Police with special video-camera traps for the purpose of carrying out extensive investigation and control activities in all areas of the city, from the countryside to the centre, including beaches.
