Seven million euros to rebuild the Don Antonio Sanna middle school in Porto Torres, making it environmentally sustainable and energy efficient.

The green revolution desired by the European Union arrives in Porto Torres with a project financed by the Pnrr and which will affect the comprehensive institute number 2 of Monte Angellu.

In early February of this year, the Municipality took part in a Pnrr call for tenders from the Sardinia Region published the previous month. In a very short time, the municipal offices drew up a project which was eligible for funding of 7,020,000.00 euros, the highest of the 8 municipalities financed on the island and the only one financed in Sardinia under type A (demolition and reconstruction): a possible result also thanks to the seismic and static vulnerability investigations that had already been commissioned by the Municipality.

To respond to the announcement, the Municipality chose the Don Antonio Sanna institute , the only one that met the requirements set by the Pnrr: not having benefited from funding for energy efficiency works.

The complex was built in 1992, therefore it is relatively "young", and is located in the triangle between via Ennio Porrino, via Pietro Guarino and via Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. The aim of the intervention is to have a new structure with low maintenance costs, sized for 300 students, and with the possibility of sharing common spaces, complete with safe spaces, adequate by law and structurally.

The new school building will be built with natural materials and powered by renewable energies , in order to have an overall reduction in management costs, to obtain a primary energy consumption that is at least 20% lower than the NZEB requirement set by Italian legislation.

The intervention involves the demolition of the old building and the construction of the new building.

The new school complex will consist of three independent blocks divided by function, connected by bioclimatic walkways, sized considering a school population of 300 pupils, divided into 13 classes, in compliance with the guidelines of the DM 18 December 1975 and with the possibility of sharing spaces common areas, a gymnasium, an auditorium and an open-air amphitheater. Overall, the covered area of the intervention amounts to a total of 1,600.98 square metres, while the gross floor area, as defined by the Ares manual of the Sardinia Region, amounts to 3250 square metres.

«I want to sincerely thank the staff of the technical offices who, with great commitment, in just a few weeks, were able to achieve a result that few in Sardinia have achieved. It is the confirmation that the Municipality of Porto Torres has excellence in this field as well», said the councilor for education, Simona Fois.

For the mayor Massimo Mulas, a result obtained after two years of full activity of the offices which have planned a series of interventions for around 20 million, destined for the maintenance of the schools.
