The new anti-viral "Paxlovid", the anti-Covid drug from the pharmaceutical company Pfizer, is also arriving in Sardinia.

The first 113 complete treatments of the oral drug authorized by AIFA will arrive tomorrow, Friday 4 February, on the island. They will be delivered to the pharmacy of the Santissima Trinità hospital, a regional hub for the storage and distribution of antiviral drugs and monoclonal antibodies.

The stocks destined for the island are part of the first 11,200 complete treatments delivered in Italy, for a total supply that in 2022 amounts to 600 thousand complete treatments in 2022, according to what was announced by Commissioner Figliuolo.

The indications of Aifa provide for the use of "Paxlovid" within five days of the onset of symptoms and treatment for a period of five days.

“Our health system too - declares the regional health councilor, Mario Nieddu - actively follows the evolution in the scientific field of treatments against Covid. Like the other antivirals, 'Paxlovid' is also indicated for the early treatment of positive cases that present important risk factors for the possibility of developing the most severe forms of the disease and therefore hospitalization ".

Drugs, points out Nieddu, which "do not replace vaccines, which remain the first bulwark against the virus, but represent an additional weapon". Healthcare facilities "are ready".

There are eleven hospitals on the island authorized by the Region to prescribe and treat patients with antiviral drugs and monoclonal antibodies: Marino from Alghero, Giovanni Paolo II from Olbia, Nostra Signora della Mercede from Lanusei, San Francesco from Nuoro, San Martino di Oristano, Nostra Signora di Bonaria di San Gavino, the Cto di Iglesias, the San Pietro di Sassari Clinics, the Santissima Trinità and San Michele di Cagliari and the Duilio Casula Polyclinic in Monserrato.
