Luciano Piras, a 58-year-old haulier from Paulilatino, has agreed to a sentence of 4 years and 5 months for attempted murder.

The argument occurred on the night between Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th July 2023 in Piazza Rinascita, at the end of a dog show. According to what was reconstructed by the carabinieri of the Paulilatino station and the operational unit of the Ghilarza Company, Giovanni Vidili had tied his two dogs to the railing of the fence of the house where Luciano Piras lives and then left with his brother Daniele and other friends. Upon returning, when he was preparing to untie the dogs to leave, a violent argument broke out with the owner of the house who was annoyed by the presence of the dogs close to his home . Increasingly heated tones, until the lorry driver attempted to hit the owner of the dogs with a knife . Giovanni Vidili managed to dodge the blow which however injured his brother Daniele , who intervened to restore calm. The 35-year-old was immediately rescued and taken to San Martino where he underwent two delicate surgeries on his kidney and intestine.

The trial had been set for July but a few weeks ago Luciano Piras, assisted by the lawyer Maria Assunta Argiolas, presented the request for a plea bargain. A sentence of 4 years and 5 months was agreed with prosecutor Sara Ghiani, accepted by judge Roberto Carboni. The investigating judge also revoked the house arrest and ordered a ban on approaching the offended parties, the two Vidili brothers who joined the civil action with the lawyer Rafaele Cocco.
