Moments of tension in the Bancali prison in Sassari where an Islamic man detained in the AS 2 circuit (terrorist crimes) tried to burn the face of an officer with a cigarette . The man asked to leave his cell outside the permitted hours and without a valid reason. When the policeman said no, he reacted with insults and threats , trying to burn him with his cigarette butt and - finally - spitting in his face.
This was made known by the general secretary of Sardinia of the UilPa Penitentiary Police Michele Cireddu , according to whom «these gestures represent a small cross-section of what our Policemen have to endure on a daily basis. Spitting in the face is one of the most despicable gestures that an individual can carry out, this vile aggression is the emblem of the failure of the penitentiary system and certifies that up to now, both politics and the administration's top management have managed to only create “hot air”».

«We had hoped and requested – continues Cireddu – in unsuspecting times, an operational intervention protocol that would allow staff not to suffer attacks of any nature and practicable guidelines. Instead, an unrealizable almanac was issued because those who created it did not fully understand that few officers work in the detention sections, significantly below the expected safety levels." The complaint of the few staff available in the prisons is followed by the finger pointing at the "many managements, including that of Sassari", which implement choices not shared by the union.
