If you go down, the purple decorations of su mucadori - the typical Esterzilese handkerchief - frame the verses of "The song of the shepherds", taken from the "libro de comedias" by Fra' Antonio Maria da Esterzili, written in 1688. If you goes up, instead, you immerse yourself in the figure of this young character, as mysterious as he is fascinating, born in Esterzili in 1645. While at the end of the stairs the explosion of green and blue tells of the breathtaking panorama that can be admired from the highest point of Mount Santa Victory.

It is the last mural wanted by the municipal administration which took shape in Murtas in the staircase that connects via Eleonora d'Arborea with via Fra' Antonio Maria. And it is precisely to the latter that the work created by Agnes Zimmermann and Luca Cocco is dedicated.

«When the mayor Renato Melis asked us to paint the figure of Fra' Antonio Maria da Esterzili we honestly didn't know who he was. We informed ourselves through the stories of the people of Esterzile, partly via the internet, and it was exciting for us to paint a person who lived about 400 years ago and whose memory has survived to this day", say the two artists enthusiastically, now at home in Esterzili. In fact, there are several murals signed by them which enrich the views of the town. «Having not found any depiction of him, we imagined him as a young man intent on writing one of his works inside the nuraghe at the top of Mount Santa Vittoria with the wonderful panorama that can be enjoyed from up there behind him».

The photos of the work have already made the rounds on the web, many have gone to admire the staircase, now all that remains is the inauguration which, the Municipality assures, will take place soon.

«We would like to thank all the administration and all the people of Esterzili who have been really kind and very very hospitable to us, we now feel at home here», conclude Zimmermann and Cocco.
