She had abandoned her newborn son under a car parked on the street. The woman, a thirty-year-old from Osilo , was ordered to be tried with an abbreviated trial, conditioned on the hearing of a psychiatrist. The Sassari Prosecutor's Office requested that she be sent for trial for attempted murder and today the woman's defense attorney, Pietro Fresu, chose the abbreviated conditional trial before the preliminary hearing judge. The hearing will take place on April 2 and the deposition of psychiatrist Alessandra Nivoli will be heard, who after the events of 2023 visited the defendant to evaluate her profile and her capacity to understand and want.
The facts date back to the dawn of October 18, 2023. The 30-year-old had given birth in her room, in the house where she lives with her mother. She had then abandoned the baby on the street, under a car parked in front of the house. The 30-year-old's mother, unaware that her daughter was pregnant, had heard the baby's crying, had found him lying under the car and had called for help. The baby, suffering from hypothermia, had been transported by 118 to the hospital in Sassari and saved. The mother had also been accompanied to the hospital, had been admitted and then arrested. A few days later she was released because the investigating judge had downgraded the charge from attempted murder to abandonment of a minor.
Subsequently, the Review Judge , accepting the appeal of the Prosecutor's Office, had reclassified the crime as attempted murder and had in any case released the woman, considering that there was neither the risk of escape nor that of repetition of the crime.
