Candlemas is celebrated on 2 February and the Sartiglia comes to life in Oristano , with the delivery of the blessed candles to the Componidoris .

This year the presidents of the Gremi have chosen Giovanni Utzeri for the Sartiglia of the Farmers and Fabrizio Manca for that of the Carpenters .

The party program is dense. It begins with the masses celebrated in the Church of San Giovanni dei Fiori (at 7) and in the Cathedral of Santa Maria (at 8.30), respectively for the Farmers and Carpenters, during which the candles are blessed which will then be donated to the closest people to the packs.

Among the first to receive the blessed candle as a gift are the Archbishop and the Mayor of Oristano.

The ancient ceremonial of the Sartiglia assigns to the presidents of the Gremi (s'Oberaiu Majori of the Gremio dei Contadini and the Majorale en Cabo of the Gremio dei Falegnami) the task of making the choice of the respective Componidoris official with the delivery of the candle to the chosen knights blessed (with red bows for the farmers and pink and light blue for the carpenters).

The delivery of the candle to the Componidori dei Falegnami, in via De Castro, is scheduled for 12pm, and the delivery of the candle to the Componidori dei Contadini, in via Angioy, is scheduled for 12.30pm.

The Pro Loco will also celebrate Candlemas: at 10.30, in via Raimondo Bonu, the candle will be delivered to su Componidoreddu Luca Piras. The delivery of the candles, marked by the music of the drummers and trumpeters, is accompanied by the invocation "Santu Giuanni t'aggiudidi" by s'Oberaiu Majori dei Contadini and "Santu Giuseppi t'assistada" by the Majorale en Cabo dei Falegnami.
