When he heard his name he cheered, raising his arms in the air. And then tears and many emotions. Mattia Onida, 9 years old, will take on the role of su componidoreddu of the Sartilla 'e canna of Oristano on February 4th, in Sant'Efisio, the historic district of Su Brugu.

This morning, immediately after mass, in the parish hall where the canes transformed into cane horses are already on display, his name was drawn at random as tradition dictates by Don Alessandro Floris, in front of many people. For Mattia Onida, who attends primary school in via Bellini, a dream come true, an immense joy. Helping him on the big day there will be two mini women: on the second Giorgia Putzolu, who attends the fourth grade of the school in via Bellini and on the third Perla Ruggero, who instead attends the second grade on via Solferino.

The ceremony was accompanied by the mini drummers of the Pro loco of Oristano led by maestro Marco Turnu. There was no shortage of trumpets. So now the countdown has begun.

The Sartilla 'e cane has been organized by the Association for the protection and promotion of cane horses for over 30 years. An event that every year attracts many children from all over the province and beyond. Meanwhile, in the parish hall of Su Brugu, now transformed into a real stable, the preparation of the cane horses continues in preparation for the big day. At the end of January the canes were harvested and then cleaned. Then the assembly of the various pieces takes place. Each member of the association has a specific role. And so in about twenty minutes a little horse is created. What then on the day of the Sartilla 'e cane will be used by the children to imitate the Sartiglia horses, the real ones, their idols. However, everything will take place in miniature and with carnival costumes.
