Not only had he abandoned rubbish in the city centre but among the bags he also left a fragment of an amphora dating back to the 2nd century BC.
However, the man did not escape the local police checks and was reported for littering and theft of cultural materials.

The operation was conducted by the Oristano Local Police's Environmental Surveillance Office, with the support of the Oristano City Council's Department of the Environment. Officers patrolling the area recently discovered a large pile of waste in a central area of the city: dozens of bags illegally stacked, defacing the urban landscape. During the inspection, a fragment of an amphora was discovered among the household waste, an archaeological find of considerable interest. Its discovery was immediately reported to the relevant authorities for cataloging and protection.

Thanks to a thorough investigation, which cross-referenced paper evidence found on the scene with database searches and further checks, the local police were able to identify the perpetrator. The man has been reported to the Prosecutor's Office, and his position is now under judicial review.

The charges are serious: not only littering, but also theft of cultural heritage. "This operation demonstrates how territorial control is essential not only for decorum, but for overall legality," commented the local police command. "The discovery of a historical artifact among the waste is a serious matter that underscores the importance of never lowering our guard in protecting our heritage, both environmental and cultural."
