After the two cases of legionella recorded in recent days in Sardinia , with a woman, 66-year-old Paola Piga , dying at the Monserrato Polyclinic , and her 77-year-old friend from Quartu hospitalized in serious conditions at the Santissima Trinità in Cagliari, the ASL has announced having closed the Hostel Rodia in Oristano from today , with the exception of the restaurant business.

THE CONNECTION – The only established connection for now between the two women is in fact their presence at the meeting of the Neocatechumenal community which took place from 2 to 5 November in the Oristano structure . A spiritual retreat, made up of meetings and experiences of coexistence, without leaving the structure.

The disposition of the ASL 5 of Oristano took place by order of Dr. Maria Valentina Marras , director of the Department of Hygiene and Prevention.

The facility was closed as a precaution pending the outcome of the analyzes of the samples taken yesterday by specialized technicians of the Department of Hygiene and Prevention of the Oristano Local Health Authority in the rooms and in the water storage tank . The results of the analyzes will be known no earlier than a fortnight.

THE FACTS – As has emerged so far, at the Neocatechumenal spiritual retreat at the beginning of November at the Rodia hotel in Oristano there were a total of around thirty people from the Poetto community . And once Paola Piga returned home, after a few days, she felt ill . Respiratory problems until hospital admission. Last Wednesday the positive result for legionella arrived. The day after death.

Family members and the Neocatechumenal community checked to see if other people had similar symptoms. And we arrived at the friend from Quarto, hospitalized at the Santissima Trinità for serious pneumonia. The test made it possible to ascertain that she was also positive for legionella.
