Two people originally from the Oristano area rescued by the Port Authority of Oristano on board a fishing boat adrift in the gulf. The Coast Guard Operations Room received a distress call via Blue Number 1530 yesterday evening: the two occupants reported that they were in difficulty due to engine failure and that they were near the tourist port of Torregrande.

After having verified the good health conditions of the two people, aged 38 and 74, the operations room of the Port Authority of Oristano sent the patrol boat CP 893, a naval unit specialized in search and rescue activities at sea. The rescue operations proved not to be easy: the two had given wrong information about their position, only thanks to the request from the Operations Room staff to light a hand fire with a red light was it possible to identify them, much further away, beyond 3 miles from the small port of Torregrande.

The activities ended around 10pm when the unit, once intercepted by patrol boat personnel , was escorted to the tourist port of Torregrande and moored, with the occupants shaken by the incident but who did not require medical treatment .

The Port Authority of Oristano «recalls how fundamental it is, for all users of the sea, to prevent any problems during navigation through a careful preliminary check of the efficiency conditions of the nautical vessel accompanied by the necessary consideration due to the weather and sea conditions and their expected evolution as well as communication devices which must always be adapted to the distance from the coast".
