A large pine tree fell in the rear courtyard of the Leonardo Alagon secondary school, in via Busachi, in Oristano.

Only a coincidence meant that the accident occurred at night and in a point that was not busy at the time: in fact, every morning that stretch of pavement is crossed by hundreds of students. The heavy trunk damaged the former house of the school caretaker, while the branches went over the fence and knocked down an Enel pole.

The firefighters, the municipal police, the environmental councilor Maria Bonaria Zedda and the director of the execution of the contract for the monitoring and stability checks of the city trees immediately intervened on site. The pine in question had already been subjected to inspection.

It is not clear whether the weight of the birds, which in large numbers in recent weeks have invaded the tree's crown, contributed to the failure of the roots.

The Oristano Più group leader Efisio Sanna intervened on the issue, having already signed, together with the minority, last May, an interpellation on the failure to verify the trees.

«The collapses that have occurred in recent months worry us quite a bit - he states - We are especially concerned about the latest event, since it occurred in very normal and not exceptional weather conditions such as wind or heavy rain». The opposition representative adds that «for over six years there has been no trace of visual or instrumental monitoring of the stability of the trees. The Municipality has the political responsibility to address the issue with all the energy and commitment possible."
